David and Debbie’s own story began in this tropical paradise. Originally from Vancouver, Debbie began traveling to Turks & Caicos with her late husband and young children in 2006. They moved on island in 2009.
David made his first trip to Grace Bay with his family in 2009 and was hooked. After five more visits, he knew the time was right to purchase Villa 306 in the gorgeous beachfront Villa Renaissance property.
But now fast forward six years as Debbie and David’s paths did not cross until a fellow Villa Renaissance owner, who was friends with them both, had a strong intuition that these two amazing life stories (filled with joy, pain, sacrifice, and now, both being single) needed to at least have a “chance” to enjoy a friendship.
In fact, David was literally leaving from his trip on island, while Debbie was arriving from Vancouver to visit this friend after being widowed. He was sitting in departures, and Debbie was at international arrivals, without either having any idea of the incredible future ahead.
While Debbie was on island, she was told about David, his situation, and eventually their matchmaker provided contact details for each and put the future into their own hands.
A VIRTUAL CONNECTION
The two traded emails, phone numbers, WhatsApp and texts, and continued to get to know each other virtually over the next four months.
It was a chance to share and heal as single parents. They finally planned to meet in person again, and the rest was history!
The blended family now includes Debbie’s three kids—Cole, Max, and Delilah; David’s two kids—Caitlin, and Alli; and the fur babies — Tuxxy, Vinnie, Archie…
AND MIKEY, THE POTCAKE!
Mikey is the only one in the bunch born and bred on island, and he has his own story of love and healing.
While Debbie lived on island, she found Mikey cowering under a palm tree in Long Bay on one of her beach walks. She grabbed the malnourished puppy and proceeded to spend hours picking ticks off him and freeing him from fleas.
She had no intention of keeping Mikey. Nope. His next stop was going to be Pot Cake Place K9 Rescue. But after a few hours together, all that work to clean him up, plus a good meal, Debbie decided he could stay just one night.
Nine years later, that lucky dog remains a central and beloved part of this blended family!
First, Mikey traveled back to Vancouver with Debbie. Then Mikey moved to Texas in 2019 after Debbie and David married and combined their children into one busy household outside of the Dallas area.
YOU, TOO, ARE INVITED TO JOIN THE VILLA 306 FAMILY
Each year David, Debbie, et al, take at least three trips to Grace Bay. The family treasures their time on island and escape from the hectic pace of daily life in Texas, which includes a lot of global business travel for David.
They honor island time by putting their phones down and leaving those big flat screen TV’s off.
And they want their guests to enjoy the same tropical respite.
“We hope you enjoy our paradise home away from home as much as we do, building lasting memories with family and friends like us, and that you come back year after year,” says David.
“Our guests become Villa 306 family members, and we want to do anything we can to ensure that your visit is one of the best times of your life.”
